I am so excited to be writing this post! I have been wanting to bring you (and me!) some type of challenge to do throughout the month or even over the course of the year that will encourage us all to grow, learn, or improve some area of our lives. I know that I enjoy doing challenges online and I hope this one will be enjoyable as well! I will be having various challenges throughout the year, some 30 day challenges, some year long ones, and maybe even some in between those lengths! But, to kick it all off I am starting with the current challenge; Project 52…cue the confetti!
This is a super flexible 52 week challenge where you pick a new project each week to complete. By the end of the year you will have finished 52 of the projects on your list…yay! Some projects may take way less than a week and some could be longer than one week and it may even end up taking two or three weeks for certain projects to be completed, and that’s totally ok! That’s the beauty of this challenge. You get to decide which projects you want to complete, what order to do them in, and how long each one should take; totally flexible!
To keep myself on track and in some kind of routine with this challenge, I am going to start my projects on Fridays…I think I will call it, “Pick A Project Friday!”. By planning for my projects to be started each Friday, I can develop a habit and routine of actually doing them every week! For me Fridays work best because it is the day where we don’t have any dance classes or karate lessons and we do “fun day Friday” for homeschool (an easier day where we don’t do our normal workbooks and school work, but do math games or manipulatives and other fun projects that go along with what we are working on). So usually Fridays are less hectic, allowing more time for me to start my project for the week, which if needed, can continue into the weekend, another time of the week that typically has some downtime (most weekends anyway!).
For most of my projects I am going to try and pick things that I can finish in a week or less, but I am sure there will be some that may take a bit longer. I even have some projects in mind that will only take me a few hours to complete, but hey, it’s still one more project checked off my list; I call that a win!
For my first project, I am going to make a list of all of the projects I hope to get to over the next 52 weeks! This way I can actually cross off that project when it’s completed and see my progress over the year (which I love to do, nerdy, I know!). Plus, writing it all out will allow me to glance at my list every week and pick the project that will be the best fit for that week. If it is supposed to be -10 with a wind chill of -30, I don’t want to pick the project of cleaning out my children’s playhouse…hello hypothermia! And I know that around birthdays and holidays things are quite busy so those are the weeks I can look at my handy dandy list and pick a simple, short project that week. I can still cross a project off my list (yay!), but without going crazy trying to do Thanksgiving for 25 people while in the middle of a huge project!
I made a simple form to write my master list of project ideas on, which you can download free here or by clicking the picture below!
Many of my projects will include de-cluttering, cleaning and organizing various parts of our house (ok, not various parts, but most parts of our house!) because this is something I have been wanting to get to for awhile now. It really needs to be done and I love organizing (no, really I do, I am kind of crazy like that!) so this is the perfect challenge to get it all done! Other projects that I hope to work on include making birthday invitations for my children’s birthday parties, finalizing our home management binder, putting together a planner for my blog, doing a blog vision board and schedule, going through my recipe folders and cleaning things up, and making an emergency binder, just to name a few. These things will probably not take me a week to finish, but they are things that I can plan for and schedule each week; crossing those projects off my list one by one!
I am going to write often about my progress and what projects I am working on as the year goes on and I would love to hear what projects you have in mind for this challenge. Maybe your ideas will inspire me to add some things to my list. I hope you all are as excited about this challenge as I am! I’m so ready to start this year off with a plan to finally get to all of those projects I have been putting off. Here’s to Project 52!
This is the form I am going to use to keep track of which projects I am doing each week. Feel free to download one here for yourself as well!
